About this study

Official title: The Effect of an Analog Gamification-Based Interactive Narrative (REPRO-QUEST) Intervention on Enhancing Sexual Health Literacy and Behaviors Aimed at Protecting Against Sexually Transmitted Infections Among Female University Students: A Randomized Controlled Trial

This randomized controlled trial evaluates the effectiveness of an analog gamification-based interactive narrative intervention (REPRO-QUEST) on enhancing sexual health literacy and behaviors aimed at protecting against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among female university students.

Participants in the intervention group participate in the REPRO-QUEST interactive narrative game session, while participants in the control group receive standard evidence-based educational material on sexual health and STI prevention (an Educational Booklet). Sexual health literacy and protective behaviors against STIs are assessed at baseline and post-intervention to evaluate the efficacy of gamified learning compared to standard educational materials.

Read the detailed description

Sexual health education among young adults often faces engagement challenges when delivered solely through traditional informational formats. Gamification and interactive narrative-based interventions offer active learning environments that may improve knowledge retention, critical decision-making, and protective behavioral intentions.

In this randomized controlled study, eligible female university students are randomly allocated into two parallel groups:

Intervention Group (REPRO-QUEST): Participants undergo an analog gamification-based interactive narrative session designed to facilitate decision-making scenarios, risk reduction strategies, and practical knowledge application regarding reproductive health and STI prevention.

Control Group (Educational Booklet): Participants receive a comprehensive, guideline-aligned educational booklet covering safe sexual practices, STI prevention strategies (including pharmacological options such as PrEP, PEP, and TaSP), and reproductive health fundamentals.

Outcomes measured before and after the intervention evaluate changes in comprehensive sexual health literacy levels and protective behavioral measures against sexually transmitted infections.

What participants receive

What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.

  • REPRO-QUEST Interactive NarrativeBehavioural

An analog gamification-based interactive narrative booklet featuring branching storylines and decision-making scenarios designed to enhance sexual health literacy and STI prevention behaviors.

  • Educational BookletBehavioural

A standard evidence-based educational booklet on safe sexual health practices and STI prevention published by the Turkish Family Health and Planning Foundation (TAPV).

What is being measured

The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.

  1. Behaviors Aimed at Protecting Against Sexually Transmitted Infections

Assessed using the Scale for Behaviors Aimed at Protecting Against Sexually Transmitted Infections. The instrument evaluates protective behavioral intentions, barrier contraceptive practices, risk perception, and preventative measures against STIs. Higher scores indicate greater engagement in protective health behaviors.

Measured: Baseline (pre-intervention) and immediately post-intervention

Secondary outcomes (1)
  1. Sexual Health Literacy Level

Assessed using the Sexual Health Literacy Scale (SHLS). The scale measures overall sexual health literacy across functional, interactive, and critical dimensions. Higher total scores indicate higher levels of sexual health literacy.

Measured: Baseline (pre-intervention) and immediately post-intervention

Questions about this trial

What is this clinical trial studying?

A study testing REPRO-QUEST Interactive Narrative and Educational Booklet in people with Sexual Health and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), run by Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University at 1 site in Turkey (Türkiye).

The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.

Who may be eligible to take part?

The sponsor lists 4 inclusion and 3 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.

Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?

The record says: finished, as of the sponsor's last update on 21 Oct 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.

Where is the study taking place?

The record lists 1 site in Turkey (Türkiye). Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.

What are the possible benefits and risks?

They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.

Are results available for this study?

The study is completed, but results are not available in the source record. That does not mean the treatment did or did not work.

How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?

The record lists no contact. The official record names the sponsor, who can be asked directly. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.

What does the primary outcome measure?

Behaviors Aimed at Protecting Against Sexually Transmitted Infections (time frame: Baseline (pre-intervention) and immediately post-intervention). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.

Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?

No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.

How often is this information updated?

AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 21 Oct 2026.
