About this study

Official title: Implementation of a Training Program to Improve EEG Competence in Neurocritical Care Nursing and Non-Physician Treatment Teams for the Recognition of Epileptiform and Ictal Patterns (EPI-TRAIN: EEG Training for the Detection of Pathological Ictal Patterns in Neurocritical Care)

The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate the extent to which a practice-oriented training program for intensive care nursing staff and non-physician treatment teams can contribute to the earlier detection of epileptic seizures, with particular emphasis on SE.

Further objectives include enhancing competence in EEG interpretation and minimizing existing communication and procedural barriers within the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Participants will participate in a half-day training session, which will include:

  • attending a specialist lecture,
  • completing two knowledge assessments and one evaluation questionnaire,
  • completing an additional brief evaluation questionnaire after one month, and
  • completing a further brief evaluation questionnaire after three months to assess the sustainability of the learning outcomes.

What is being measured

The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.

  1. Number of correct responses on the study-specific 16-item EEG Knowledge Questionnaire

Number of correctly answered items (range 0-16) on a study-specific 16-item multiple-choice questionnaire assessing EEG knowledge and seizure recognition.

Measured: Baseline (before the training session) and immediately after completion of the training session (Day 0).

Secondary outcomes (1)
  1. Responses to items of a study-specific EEG training evaluation questionnaire (6-point Likert scale)

Responses to individual questionnaire items evaluating participants' perceptions of the training program and EEG use in clinical practice. Individual item scores (1 = strongly agree to 6 = strongly disagree) will be reported separately.

Measured: Immediately after completion of the training session (Day 0), approximately 1 month (30 ± 7 days), and approximately 3 months (90 ± 14 days) after completion of the training session.

Questions about this trial

What is this clinical trial studying?

A study testing Training Program in people with Epilepsy and Status Epilepticus, run by University Hospital Marburg at 1 site in Germany.

The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.

Who may be eligible to take part?

The sponsor lists 1 inclusion and 1 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.

Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?

The record says: finished, as of the sponsor's last update on 8 Jul 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.

Where is the study taking place?

The record lists 1 site in Germany. Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.

What are the possible benefits and risks?

They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.

Are results available for this study?

The study is completed, but results are not available in the source record. That does not mean the treatment did or did not work.

How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?

The record lists no contact. The official record names the sponsor, who can be asked directly. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.

What does the primary outcome measure?

Number of correct responses on the study-specific 16-item EEG Knowledge Questionnaire (time frame: Baseline (before the training session) and immediately after completion of the training session (Day 0).). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.

Where can I read the original study information?

On the ClinicalTrials.gov record for NCT07689084, which also lists 5 linked publications.

Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?

No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.

How often is this information updated?

AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 8 Jul 2026.
