About this study
This study aims to assess medication adherence and the appropriateness of prescribed medications among patients admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU). The study will use the Medication Appropriateness Index (MAI) to evaluate the suitability of prescribed medications and the Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ) to assess patients' beliefs and perceptions regarding their medications. Understanding medication adherence and related beliefs may help identify factors associated with inappropriate medication use and non-adherence in hospitalized cardiac patients. The findings of this study may contribute to improving medication management and patient care in the CCU setting.
Read the detailed description
This is a cross-sectional observational study conducted in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU). The study evaluates medication adherence and the appropriateness of prescribed medications among hospitalized cardiac patients. Medication appropriateness is assessed using the Medication Appropriateness Index (MAI), and patients' beliefs about medicines are assessed using the Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ). Data are collected through medical record review and patient interviews during hospitalization. The study involves no intervention or modification of routine clinical care.

This is an observational study with no active intervention.

What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Medication adherence (BMQ)
Medication adherence will be assessed using the Brief Medication Questionnaire (BMQ), a validated tool that evaluates medication-taking behavior and barriers to adherence.
Measured: During CCU admission after clinical stabilization (assessed up to 5 days)
Medication appropriateness measured by Medication Appropriateness Index (MAI)
Medication appropriateness will be assessed using the Medication Appropriateness Index (MAI). The MAI score ranges from 0 to 12, where lower scores indicate better medication adherence and higher scores indicate poorer adherence.
Measured: During CCU admission after clinical stabilization (assessed up to 5 days)

What does the primary outcome measure?
Medication adherence (BMQ) (time frame: During CCU admission after clinical stabilization (assessed up to 5 days)). The study lists 2 primary outcomes in all. It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.
Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?
No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.
How often is this information updated?
AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 31 Mar 2026.
