Clinical trials: Hemothorax
Retained Hemothorax
Intrapleural Urokinase for Retained Hemothorax
Intrapleural thrombolytic treatment with urokinase for retained hemothorax is effective and safe. However, previous study was limited in prospective observation study without control group.

Traumatic Hemothorax
Pleural Suction Additional to Thoracostomy Tube for Traumatic Hemothorax
The primary treatment for traumatic hemothorax, is a thoracostomy tube. Some of these patients develop a clotted hemothorax by insufficient drainage. This complication needs surgical resolution and can generate an empyema.
- Trial name
- NCT04525365
- Testing
- Pleural aspiration

Suction vs Underwater Seal for HemoPneumoThoraX Trial
Traumatic pneumothorax and hemothorax are common consequences of chest injury, often requiring prompt tube thoracostomy to re-expand the lung and drain accumulated blood or air.

Hemothorax, Thoracic Injuries
The Management of Traumatic Hemothoraces
Chest injuries are common in patients with polytrauma and are responsible for approximate 25% of all trauma-related mortalities. Traumatic injuries to the thorax often result in the accumulation of blood within the chest (i.e.

Prospective Evaluation of 14F Thal Tube vs 28 French Chest Tube for Hemothorax and Use of Maximum Barrier Precautions
Traumatic hemothorax and hemopneumothorax are common diagnoses which are typically treated by placement of a chest tube. 28-32 Fr chest tubes have previously been shown equivalent to 36-40 Fr chest tubes for the non-emergent…
