  • No healthy volunteers
  • Adult, Older adult

Study population: Adult patients with ischemic stroke (ICD-10: I63) hospitalized in the Neurological Rehabilitation Department. The study population will include patients in different phases after stroke, including the early subacute phase and the late subacute phase (approximately 3-6 months after stroke). Participants will undergo a standard neurological rehabilitation program and will be assessed for changes in neuroplasticity-related markers and neurotransmitter profiles.

Who may be able to join

  • Diagnosis of ischemic stroke according to ICD-10 code I63.
  • Subacute phase of ischemic stroke (7 days to 6 months after stroke onset).
  • Written informed consent provided by the patient for participation in the study.
  • Ability to establish basic logical verbal communication.

Who cannot join

  • Lack of patient consent to participate in the study.
  • Hemorrhagic stroke.
  • Severe general condition.
  • Presence of brain tumors or other diseases of the central nervous system.
  • Inflammatory diseases accompanied by fever.
  • Systemic diseases.

About this study

Official title: Effects of Neurological Rehabilitation on the Expression of Neuroplasticity Markers and Neurotransmitter Profiles in Patients at Different Stages Following Ischemic Stroke

This observational study evaluates the effects of neurological rehabilitation on biological markers associated with neuroplasticity and neurotransmitter profiles in patients after ischemic stroke. The study will include patients at different stages after stroke who undergo neurological rehabilitation as part of their standard care. The aim of the study is to assess whether rehabilitation is associated with changes in neuroplasticity-related markers and neurotransmitter levels, which may contribute to a better understanding of recovery processes after ischemic stroke.

Read the detailed description

Stroke is one of the leading causes of long-term disability worldwide. Neurological rehabilitation plays a key role in promoting functional recovery after ischemic stroke, but the biological mechanisms underlying rehabilitation-induced neuroplasticity are not fully understood.

This prospective observational study aims to investigate the association between neurological rehabilitation and changes in the expression of neuroplasticity-related biomarkers and neurotransmitter profiles in patients at different stages following ischemic stroke. Participants will receive standard neurological rehabilitation according to routine clinical practice. Biological samples and clinical assessments will be collected at predefined time points to evaluate changes associated with the rehabilitation process.

The findings of this study may improve the understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in post-stroke recovery and contribute to the identification of biomarkers associated with rehabilitation outcomes. This knowledge may support the development of more personalized rehabilitation strategies for patients after ischemic stroke.

What participants receive

What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.

Study groups in NCT07899710

Early Subacute Ischemic Stroke CohortPatients with ischemic stroke in the early subacute phase undergoing standard neurological rehabilitation.
Late Subacute Ischemic Stroke CohortPatients with ischemic stroke in the late subacute phase (approximately 3-6 months after stroke) undergoing neurological rehabilitation.

What is being measured

The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.

  1. Expression of Neuroplasticity Markers and Neurotransmitter Profiles

Assessment of changes in the expression of neuroplasticity-related markers and neurotransmitter profiles in blood samples collected from patients with ischemic stroke undergoing neurological rehabilitation. The analysis will compare biomarker levels between patients in different stages after stroke and evaluate changes associated with the rehabilitation process.

Measured: At baseline and after 4 weeks of neurological rehabilitation

Questions about this trial

What is this clinical trial studying?

An observational study of Ischemic Stroke and Stroke Rehabilitaion, run by Medical University of Lodz.

The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.

Who may be eligible to take part?

The sponsor lists 5 inclusion and 10 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.

Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?

The record says: opening soon, as of the sponsor's last update on 27 Oct 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.

What are the possible benefits and risks?

They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.

Are results available for this study?

This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.

How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?

Contact Elzbieta Miller, Professor (48426721988, elzbieta.dorota.miller@umed.lodz.pl), or a site near the patient. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.

What does the primary outcome measure?

Expression of Neuroplasticity Markers and Neurotransmitter Profiles (time frame: At baseline and after 4 weeks of neurological rehabilitation). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.

Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?

No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.

How often is this information updated?

AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 27 Oct 2026.
