About this study

Official title: A Podcast-Based Psychosocial Support Program for Women Newly Diagnosed With Breast Cancer: A Nonrandomized Controlled Study

This study will evaluate a podcast-based psychosocial support program for women who have been newly diagnosed with breast cancer. The program is designed to provide accessible information and psychological support during the period between diagnosis and the start of cancer treatment.

Participants will be assigned to either an experimental group or a control group. Participants in the experimental group will receive a series of podcast episodes addressing common concerns related to breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, psychological adjustment, and coping. Participants in the control group will receive usual care.

Participants will complete questionnaires before the program and approximately 1 month after the intervention. The study will assess changes in anxiety, uncertainty, demoralization, and other psychological outcomes. The findings will help determine whether podcast-based psychosocial support may provide useful support for women adjusting to a new breast cancer diagnosis.

What is being measured

The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.

  1. Anxiety Symptoms Measured by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-Anxiety Subscale (HADS-A)

Anxiety symptoms will be assessed using the anxiety subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-A), which consists of 7 items. Each item is scored from 0 to 3, yielding a total score ranging from 0 to 21 points. Higher scores indicate greater anxiety symptoms. The outcome measure is the HADS-A total score, expressed in points.

Measured: Baseline and approximately 1 month after the intervention

  2. Depressive Symptoms Measured by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-Depression Subscale (HADS-D)

Depressive symptoms will be assessed using the depression subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-D), which consists of 7 items. Each item is scored from 0 to 3, yielding a total score ranging from 0 to 21 points. Higher scores indicate greater depressive symptoms. The outcome measure is the HADS-D total score, expressed in points.

Measured: At baseline before the intervention and 1 month after the intervention.
