About this study
Official title: The Effect of Dilemma Story on Preschool Children's Values Acquisition and Social Problem-Solving Skills
This study examined the effects of the Dilemma Story-Based Social Skills Training Program (DSSTP) on social values acquisition and social problem-solving skills in preschool children. The study included 52 children aged 60-72 months in intervention and control groups. Children in the intervention group participated in a 12-week program that used stories involving dilemmas to encourage discussion of social situations, possible choices, and their consequences. Social problem-solving skills and social values acquisition were assessed using the Social Problem-Solving Skills Scale (SPSSS) and the Scale for the Acquisition of Social Values (SVAS). Assessments were conducted before and after the intervention. A follow-up assessment examined whether changes were maintained over time.

Dilemma Story-Based Social Skills Training ProgramBehavioural
Also called DSSTP
A structured educational program for children aged 60-72 months, delivered over 12 weeks in three sessions per week (36 sessions in total), with each session lasting 45-60 minutes. Dilemma stories were used to encourage children to discuss social situations, consider alternative solutions, and reflect on social values and the consequences of their choices. The program aimed to support social values acquisition and social problem-solving skills.

What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Change in Social Values Acquisition Score
Change from baseline in social values acquisition, assessed using the Scale for the Acquisition of Social Values (SVAS). Each item presents three pictorial response options: one correct and two incorrect. Correct responses are scored 1 and incorrect responses 0. Total scores range from 0 to 19, with higher scores indicating greater social values acquisition.
Measured: Baseline and immediately after the 12-week intervention (both groups); 3 weeks after intervention completion, approximately week 15 (intervention group only).
Change in Social Problem-Solving Skills Score
Change from baseline in social problem-solving skills, assessed using the Social Problem-Solving Skills Scale (SPSSS). Children choose a positive or negative behavioral response to a problem presented in a story. Positive responses are scored 1 and negative responses 0. Total scores range from 0 to 6, with higher scores indicating better social problem-solving skills. Scores of 0-2 indicate low, 3-4 moderate, and 5-6 high skill levels.
Measured: Baseline and immediately after the 12-week intervention (both groups); 3 weeks after intervention completion, approximately week 15 (intervention group only).
