Trial summary

The study will measure serum Pro-N-Cadherin and NT-proBNP (pro B-type natriuretic peptide) levels in adults with non-small cell lung cancer receiving hypofractionated radiation therapy and evaluate whether these biomarkers correlate with radiation dose to the heart, cardiac dysfunction, and adverse cardiac events. About this study

Official title: Predicting Radiation-induced Cardiac Disease With the Biomarker Serum Pro-N-Cadherin

Participants will undergo blood collection and echocardiography over a two-year follow-up period.

Being tested
Serum Pro-N-Cadherin Biomarker Assessment, Echocardiogram
Keywords
Biomarkers, Radiation-Induced Heart Disease, Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Medical subject headings
Carcinoma, Non-Small-Cell Lung

What participants receive

What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.

  • Serum Pro-N-Cadherin Biomarker AssessmentDiagnostic test

Serial blood collection for measurement of Pro-N-Cadherin and NT-proBNP (pro B-type natriuretic peptide) at baseline and follow-up timepoints, with correlation to cardiac radiation dose and outcomes.

  • EchocardiogramDiagnostic test

Participants will undergo two echocardiograms to measure heart function.

What is being measured

The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.

  1. Pro-N-Cadherin biomarker level measured in ng/ml

Measured: Baseline, prior to starting radiation therapy (approximately 2 weeks); 6, 12, 18, and 24 months post completion of radiation therapy

  2. Change in Pro-N-Cadherin biomarker level from baseline

Measured: Baseline, prior to starting radiation therapy (approximately 2 weeks); 6, 12, 18, and 24 months post completion of radiation therapy

  3. Number of participants with cardiac events

Measured: 6, 12, 18, and 24 months post completion of radiation therapy

Questions about this trial

What is this clinical trial studying?

A study testing Serum Pro-N-Cadherin Biomarker Assessment and Echocardiogram in people with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer and Radiation-Induced Cardiac Disease, run by Duke University at 1 site in United States.

The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.

Who may be eligible to take part?

The sponsor lists 6 inclusion and 2 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.

Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?

The record says: opening soon, as of the sponsor's last update on 9 Oct 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.

Where is the study taking place?

The record lists 1 site in United States. Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.

What are the possible benefits and risks?

They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.

Are results available for this study?

This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.

How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?

Contact Clinical Trials Office ((919) 668-3726, RadOnc-Clinical_Trials@dm.duke.edu), or a site near the patient. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.

What does the primary outcome measure?

Pro-N-Cadherin biomarker level measured in ng/ml (time frame: Baseline, prior to starting radiation therapy (approximately 2 weeks); 6, 12, 18, and 24 months post completion of radiation therapy). The study lists 3 primary outcomes in all. It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.

Where can I read the original study information?

On the ClinicalTrials.gov record for NCT07869329, which also lists 1 linked publication.

Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?

No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.

How often is this information updated?

AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 9 Oct 2026.
