About this study
Official title: Association Between Trapezius Muscle Oxygenation and Cervical Function in Individuals With Chronic Neck Pain
The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between trapezius muscle oxygenation and cervical range of motion, muscle strength, and disability in individuals with chronic neck pain.
Read the detailed description
Chronic neck pain is a common musculoskeletal condition associated with impaired cervical mobility, reduced muscle performance, and increased disability. Alterations in local muscle oxygenation and microcirculation, particularly in the trapezius muscle, may contribute to persistent symptoms and functional limitations. Near-infrared spectroscopy provides a non-invasive method for assessing muscle oxygenation and hemodynamic responses. This study aims to investigate the relationship between trapezius muscle oxygenation, cervical range of motion, muscle strength, and disability in individuals with chronic neck pain.

What participants receive
What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.
| Study group | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Chronic Neck Pain Group | Adults aged 18-65 years with chronic neck pain lasting at least 12 weeks will be included in the study. |
What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Trapezius Muscle Oxygen Saturation
Trapezius muscle oxygen saturation will be assessed using near-infrared spectroscopy monitor during upper-extremity exercise.
Measured: First Day
Trapezius Total Hemoglobin
Trapezius total hemoglobin will be assessed using near-infrared spectroscopy monitor during upper-extremity exercise.
Measured: First day
Secondary outcomes (4)
Trapezius Muscle Strength
Upper and middle trapezius muscle strength will be measured using a handheld dynamometer.
Measured: Second Day
Cervical Range of Motion
Active cervical flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation will be measured using a goniometer.
Measured: Second day
Neck Disability
Disability will be assessed using the Neck Disability Index (NDI; 0-50 points), with higher scores indicating greater disability.
Measured: Second day
Upper-Extremity Exercise Capacity
Maximum upper-extremity exercise capacity will be assessed using an arm ergometer test, with peak workload recorded in watts.
Measured: First Day

The record says: opening soon, as of the sponsor's last update on 6 Oct 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.
Where is the study taking place?
The record lists 1 site in Turkey (Türkiye). Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.
What are the possible benefits and risks?
They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.
Are results available for this study?
This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.
How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?
Contact Başak Kavalcı Kol, PhD (+903862802317, basak.kavalci@ahievran.edu.tr), or a site near the patient. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.
What does the primary outcome measure?
Trapezius Muscle Oxygen Saturation (time frame: First Day). The study lists 2 primary outcomes in all. It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.
Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?
No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.
How often is this information updated?
AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 6 Oct 2026.
