About this study
Official title: A Phase 4, Cluster-Randomized Crossover, Prospective, Multi-Center Trial Evaluating the Safety of Freeze-Dried Plasma and Conventional Plasma Products in Adult Patients
The purpose of this study is to compare the safety of freeze-dried plasma (FDP), known as EZPLAZ, with conventional plasma in adults who need a plasma transfusion. Plasma is the liquid part of blood that contains proteins that help blood clot. The main question is whether the risk of blood clots or death within 7 days after the first transfusion is not unacceptably higher with FDP than with conventional plasma.
Participating hospitals will follow a randomly assigned schedule that determines which plasma product enrolled participants receive during each week. Participants will receive the product assigned to their hospital for that week during the first 24 hours of treatment. The treating physician will determine how much plasma is needed. After the first 24 hours, participants may receive either product if additional plasma is required.
Participants will be followed for 28 days after their first study transfusion. Information about blood clots, transfusion reactions, or other medical problems, and survival. Trial information will come from routine medical care and medical records. Follow-up after hospital discharge may include telephone contact with the participant or their legally authorized representative. No additional laboratory tests are required solely for this study.

What participants receive
What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.
Freeze-Dried PlasmaBiological
Also called EZPLAZ, FDP, Lyophilized plasma
Single-donor human plasma supplied in freeze-dried form and reconstituted with sterile water before transfusion. Administered by intravenous or intraosseous infusion as prescribed by the treating physician and in accordance with institutional transfusion policies. Dose is determined by clinical need.
Conventional PlasmaBiological
Also called FFP, PF24, PF24RT24
Conventional plasma products selected, prepared, and administered according to each institution's standard of care. The protocol does not restrict the types of conventional plasma used. The treating physician determines the dose based on clinical need.
| Study group | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Freeze-Dried Plasma (FDP) | Experimental | Participants enrolled during a center's assigned freeze-dried period receive EZPLAZ during the index transfusion episode, defined as the first 24 hours beginning with the first assigned plasma infusion. The treating physician determines the number of units required according to clinical need. After this period, either freeze-dried or conventional plasma may be administered if additional plasma is needed. Receives: Biological: Freeze-Dried Plasma |
| Conventional Plasma | Active comparator | Participants enrolled during a center's assigned conventional plasma period receive conventional plasma during the index transfusion episode, defined as the first 24 hours beginning with the first assigned plasma infusion. The treating physician determines the number of units required according to clinical need. After this period, either freeze-dried or conventional plasma may be administered if additional plasma is needed. Receives: Biological: Conventional Plasma |

Questions about this trial
What is this clinical trial studying?
A Phase 4 study testing Freeze-Dried Plasma and Conventional Plasma in people with Thromboembolic Event and FDP, run by Teleflex.
The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.
Who may be eligible to take part?
The sponsor lists 4 inclusion and 22 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.
Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?
The record says: opening soon, as of the sponsor's last update on 30 Sep 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.
What are the possible benefits and risks?
They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.
What does this phase mean?
Phase 4 studies take place after a treatment is approved, to learn more about its long-term benefits and risks in everyday use.
Not every study follows the same path, and some studies (observational studies, device studies) have no phase.
Are results available for this study?
This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.
How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?
The record lists no contact. The official record names the sponsor, who can be asked directly. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.
What does the primary outcome measure?
Proportion of participants with a thrombotic/thromboembolic event, or death (time frame: Within 7 days after the start of plasma transfusion.). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.
Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?
No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.
How often is this information updated?
AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 30 Sep 2026.
