Key requirements
Who can take part, as listed by the sponsor. Only the study team can confirm whether you are eligible, so take this list to your doctor.
- Ages 18 years and older
- All sexes
- Healthy volunteers accepted
- Adult, Older adult
Study population: The study population consisted of adults evaluated at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University. Eligible participants with suspected bruxism were assessed using self-reported bruxism behaviors and standardized clinical examination findings. Participants meeting the predefined criteria for bruxism constituted the bruxism group. Eligible participants without bruxism were selected as controls and matched to the bruxism group according to age and sex. Biochemical laboratory results available from the preceding 6 months were evaluated.
Who may be able to join
- Age 18 years or older. American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I or II. Availability of biochemical laboratory results, including serum vitamin D, parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, and albumin, obtained within the previous 6 months.
- Agreement to participate in the study.
Who cannot join
- Use of medications affecting vitamin D metabolism. Severe malocclusion. Complete or partial edentulism. Active dental or periodontal pain. History of jaw trauma. History of orthognathic surgery. History of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery. Congenital craniofacial anomalies. Psychiatric disorders. Systemic diseases affecting bone metabolism.

About this study
Official title: The Evaluation of Biochemical Factors in Bruxist and Non-Bruxist Patients: Case Control Study
This observational case-control study aimed to compare biochemical factors related to calcium metabolism between adults with and without bruxism. Participants were classified into bruxism and control groups based on self-reported bruxism behaviors assessed using the BRUX Scale together with standardized clinical examination findings. Serum vitamin D, parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, albumin, and albumin-corrected calcium levels were evaluated and compared between the two groups. The study aimed to determine whether these biochemical parameters differ between individuals with and without bruxism and to provide further insight into their potential relationship with bruxism

What participants receive
What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.
| Study group | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Bruxism Group | Participants who met the predefined criteria for bruxism based on self-reported bruxism behaviors assessed using the BRUX Scale and standardized clinical examination findings | |
| Control Grup | Participants who did not meet the predefined criteria for bruxism and were matched to the bruxism group according to age and sex. |
What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Serum Vitamin D,calcium, albumin and PTH level
Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], calcium, PTH and albumin levels were obtained from available laboratory records and compared between participants with and without bruxism.
Measured: Within 6 months before study assessment

An observational study of Bruxism, run by Ankara Yildirim Beyazıt University at 1 site in Turkey (Türkiye).
The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.
Who may be eligible to take part?
The sponsor lists 2 inclusion and 1 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.
Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?
The record says: finished, as of the sponsor's last update on 25 Aug 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.
Where is the study taking place?
The record lists 1 site in Turkey (Türkiye). Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.
What are the possible benefits and risks?
They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.
Are results available for this study?
The study is completed, but results are not available in the source record. That does not mean the treatment did or did not work.
How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?
The record lists no contact. The official record names the sponsor, who can be asked directly. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.
What does the primary outcome measure?
Serum Vitamin D,calcium, albumin and PTH level (time frame: Within 6 months before study assessment). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.
Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?
No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.
How often is this information updated?
AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 25 Aug 2026.
