Trial summary

This clinical trial develops a non-surgical approach using uterine lavage samples to screen for progression to ovarian cancer in high-risk patients carrying BRCA mutations. Women with inherited mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes (BRCA carriers) have a much higher lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer. Read more about this study

About this study

Official title: Collection of Uterine Lavage in High-Risk Patients as a Potential Biomarker for Ovarian Cancer Risk

Currently there are no effective ovarian cancer screening or early detection tests for BRCA carriers. Uterine lavage is a procedure that uses saline to rinse and collect cells from the fallopian tube. Molecular analysis of these samples may help proactively detect genetic alterations that are indicative of progression to ovarian cancer in women with BRCA mutations.

OUTLINE:

Patients undergo uterine lavage prior to their standard of care (SOC) risk-reduction surgery and uterine lavage samples undergo molecular analysis on study.

What is being measured

The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.

  1. TP53 mutation burden (MB)

Will compare TP53 MB in lavages of women with and without serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma/high grade serous carcinoma (HGSC).

    Measured: Up to 2 years

  2. Correlation of TP53 mutation burden (MB) in lavages with known HGSC risk factors

Will correlate TP53 MB in lavages with known HGSC risk factors (age, CA125, parity, age of menarche, and use of oral contraceptives) using univariate and multivariate linear models.

    Measured: Up to 2 years

  3. Comparison of TP53 mutation burden (MB) in lavages between BRCA carriers with and without multiple TP53 pathogenic clones in fallopian tube tissue

TP53 MB in lavages will also be compared between BRCA carriers with and without multiple TP53 pathogenic clones in fallopian tube tissue.

    Measured: Up to 2 years

  4. Correlation of TP53 mutation burden (MB) in fallopian tubes and uterine lavages with the presence and number of cell clusters with positive immunostaining for TP53 in fallopian tubes

Will assess the correlation of TP53 MB in fallopian tubes and uterine lavages with the presence and number of cell clusters with positive immunostaining for TP53 in fallopian tubes.

    Measured: Up to 2 years

Questions about this trial

What is this clinical trial studying?

A study testing Uterine Lavage, Archive Sample and Survey Administration in people with BRCA Hereditary Ovarian Carcinoma and Fallopian Tube High Grade Serous Adenocarcinoma, run by University of Washington at 1 site in United States.

The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.

Who may be eligible to take part?

The sponsor lists 4 inclusion and 2 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.

Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?

The record says: looking for participants now, as of the sponsor's last update on 14 Sep 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.

Where is the study taking place?

The record lists 1 site in United States. Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.

What are the possible benefits and risks?

They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.

Are results available for this study?

This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.

How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?

Contact Intake Coordinators (206-616-3913, swisherlabrc@uw.edu), or a site near the patient. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.

What does the primary outcome measure?

TP53 mutation burden (MB) (time frame: Up to 2 years). The study lists 4 primary outcomes in all. It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.

Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?

No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.

How often is this information updated?

AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 14 Sep 2026.
