About this study

Official title: An Exploratory Study to Investigate Pain Related to Injection of Large Volumes (up to 5mL) Subcutaneously

The purpose of the study is to investigate the tolerability of different injection/infusion volumes and speed compared to standard practise. The order in which the different volumes and injection speeds will be given to participants will be allocated by chance. Participants will be in this clinical study for about 1 week.

Being tested
Syringe Pump

What participants receive

What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.

  • Syringe PumpDevice

Device used for delivery of subcutaneous injections and infusions of NaCl solution.

Study groups in NCT07769489
Study groupRoleWhat they receive
Pilot cohortExperimentalParticipants will receive subcutaneous injections and infusions of sodium chloride (NaCl) solution in varying combinations of speed and volume at different abdominal sites in a randomised sequence. A syringe pump with an attached syringe will be used for delivery of subcutaneous injections and infusions.
Receives: Device: Syringe Pump
Main cohortExperimentalParticipants will receive subcutaneous injections and infusions of sodium chloride (NaCl) solution in varying combinations of speed and volume (that have passed safety assessment in pilot cohort) at different abdominal sites in a randomised sequence. A syringe pump with an attached syringe will be used for delivery of subcutaneous injections and infusions.
Receives: Device: Syringe Pump

What is being measured

The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.

  1. Injection pain rated on a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)

The VAS scale consists of a 100 mm line on a paper where 1 will be no pain and 100 being the worst pain imaginable. The VAS response will be recorded in millimetres (mm).

Measured: 1 minute (±1 minute) from the injection initiation

  2. Injection pain rated on a VAS

The VAS scale consists of a 100 mm line on a paper where 1 will be no pain and 100 being the worst pain imaginable. The VAS response will be recorded in mm.

Measured: 9 minutes (±1minute) from the injection initiation

Secondary outcomes (5)
  1. Acceptance of pain for each injection (including the needle insertions only) as a binary measure

Measured as binary response (Acceptable/Not acceptable).

Measured: 1 minute (±1 minute) from the injection initiation

  2. Back flow at the injection site

    Measured in microlitres (μL).

Measured: 5 minutes (±1 minute) from the injection initiation

  3. Number of acute injection site reactions (haematoma, haemorrhage, bruising, erythema and oedema formation) after each injection

Measured in injection site reactions (events).

Measured: 9 minutes (±1 minute) from the injection initiation

  4. Number of long term injection site reactions (haematoma, haemorrhage, bruising, erythema and oedema formation)

Measured in injection site reactions (events).

Measured: 16-40 hours after all injections with an additional 36 hours if a clinic visit is needed

  5. Number of adverse events

    Measured in events.

Measured: Up to 40 hours after completing all the injections with an additional 36 hours if a clinic visit is needed

Questions about this trial

What is this clinical trial studying?

A Phase 1 study testing Syringe Pump in people with Healthy Participants, run by Novo Nordisk A/S at 1 site in Denmark.

The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.

Who may be eligible to take part?

The sponsor lists 5 inclusion and 12 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.

Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?

The record says: looking for participants now, as of the sponsor's last update on 15 Sep 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.

Where is the study taking place?

The record lists 1 site in Denmark. Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.

What are the possible benefits and risks?

They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.

What does this phase mean?

Phase 1 studies test a treatment in a small group of people for the first time or in a new way, mainly to check safety and find the right dose.

Not every study follows the same path, and some studies (observational studies, device studies) have no phase.

Are results available for this study?

This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.

How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?

Contact Novo Nordisk ((+1) 866-867-7178, clinicaltrials@novonordisk.com), or a site near the patient. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.

What does the primary outcome measure?

Injection pain rated on a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) (time frame: 1 minute (±1 minute) from the injection initiation). The study lists 2 primary outcomes in all. It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.

Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?

No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.

How often is this information updated?

AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 15 Sep 2026.
