About this study
Official title: Effects of Core Stabilization Exercises Combined With Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School Exercises on Trunk Rotation Angle and Core Muscle Endurance in Individuals With Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: A Randomized Controlled Study
This study aims to investigate the short-term effects of adding core stabilization exercises to Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School (BSPTS) exercises in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a BSPTS exercise group or a BSPTS plus core stabilization exercise group. Both groups will participate in supervised exercise sessions twice a week for 6 weeks. The study will evaluate changes in trunk rotation angle and core muscle endurance as the primary outcomes, as well as dynamic balance, spinal appearance perception, postural awareness, and scoliosis-related quality of life.

What participants receive
What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.
BSPTS Plus Core Stabilization ExerciseOther
Participants will receive the same BSPTS-based scoliosis-specific exercise program, combined with core stabilization exercises targeting activation of the transversus abdominis, multifidus, and other deep trunk muscles. Sessions will be conducted under the supervision of a physiotherapist for 45 minutes, twice weekly for 6 weeks.
BSPTS ExerciseOther
Participants will receive a Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School (BSPTS)-based scoliosis-specific exercise program. The program will include three-dimensional self-correction exercises focusing on spinal elongation, derotation, and sagittal plane alignment. Sessions will be conducted under the supervision of a physiotherapist for 45 minutes, twice weekly for 6 weeks.

What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Trunk Rotation Angle
Trunk rotation angle measured using a scoliometer during the Adams Forward Bend Test.
Measured: Baseline and immediately after the 6-week intervention.
Core Muscle Endurance
Core muscle endurance assessed using the McGill Core Endurance Test Battery, including trunk flexor, trunk extensor, and right and left lateral plank tests.
Measured: Baseline and immediately after the 6-week intervention.
Secondary outcomes (5)
Dynamic Balance
Dynamic balance assessed using the Y-Balance Test.
Measured: Baseline and immediately after the 6-week intervention.
Spinal Appearance Perception
Spinal appearance perception assessed using the Spinal Appearance Questionnaire (SAQ).
Measured: Baseline and immediately after the 6-week intervention.
Postural Awareness
Postural awareness assessed using the Postural Awareness Scale (PAS).
Measured: Baseline and immediately after the 6-week intervention.
Scoliosis-Related Quality of Life
Quality of life, functional status, and psychosocial impact assessed using the Scoliosis Research Society-22 (SRS-22) questionnaire.
Measured: Baseline and immediately after the 6-week intervention.
Global Perceived Change
Perceived change following treatment assessed using the Global Rating of Change Scale.
Measured: Immediately after the 6-week intervention.

Questions about this trial
What is this clinical trial studying?
A study testing BSPTS Plus Core Stabilization Exercise and BSPTS Exercise in people with Scoliosis Idiopathic Adolescent, run by Istinye University.
The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.
Who may be eligible to take part?
The sponsor lists 5 inclusion and 6 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.
Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?
The record says: opening soon, as of the sponsor's last update on 12 Aug 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.
What are the possible benefits and risks?
They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.
Are results available for this study?
This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.
How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?
The record lists no contact. The official record names the sponsor, who can be asked directly. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.
What does the primary outcome measure?
Trunk Rotation Angle (time frame: Baseline and immediately after the 6-week intervention.). The study lists 2 primary outcomes in all. It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.
Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?
No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.
How often is this information updated?
AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 12 Aug 2026.
