About this study
Official title: The Effect of Multimodal Approach of Electrotherapy Versus Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy in Menopausal Women With Tennis Elbow : A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Tennis Elbow (or Lateral Epicondylalgia) is one of the most common overload injuries that it is the most frequent cause of lateral elbow pain, occurring to people between 40-60 years of age. It is characterized by pain on the outside of the elbow, usually near the lateral epicondyle bone where the extensor carpi Brevis tendon attaches, aggravated by gripping or wringing activities During menopause period, declining estrogen levels can negatively impact tendon health. Estrogen plays a protective role in tendons, contributing to their strength and ability to withstand load.
Read the detailed description
As estrogen decreases, tendons may become weaker, less resilient, and more susceptible to injury, potentially leading to conditions like tendinopathy. This can often add to these feelings of pain and limit of function ; and possibly limit your movements in day to day activities. Multimodal electrotherapy ( low level laser therapy plus interferential current) and extracorporeal shock wave therapy can be used to improve this problem.

What participants receive
What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.
multimodal electrotherapyOther
subjects will receive multimodal approach of electrotherapy (LLLT , and IFC) with conventional physical therapy modalities in the form of (stretch and strengthen exercises ) 3 sessions every week for 6 weeks
shock wave therapyOther
subjects will receive shock wave therapy with conventional physical therapy modalities 3 sessions every week for 6 weeks.
exerciseOther
subjects will receive with conventional physical therapy modalities only in the form of (stretching and strengthening therapeutic exercises ) 3 sessions every week for 6 weeks.
| Study group | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Group A | Experimental | It consisted of fifteen menopause women receive the multimodal electrotherapy ( low level laser therapy and interferential current ) with conventional physical therapy as form of stretching and strengthen exercise Receives: Other: multimodal electrotherapy |
| Group B | Experimental | It consisted of fifteen menopause women receive receives extracorporeal shock wave therapy with conventional physical therapy Receives: Other: shock wave therapy |
| Group C | Experimental | It consisted of fifteen menopause women receive conventional physical therapy Receives: Other: exercise |
What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Visual analogue scale
The VAS consists of a 10-cm line, with the left extremity indicating ''no pain'' and the right extremity indicating ''unbearable pain.'' Participants asked to use the scale to indicate their current level of pain Higher values suggest more intense pain ,It was found that VAS provide valid and reliable assessments for the affective magnitude, as well as the sensation intensity of pain.
Measured: 6 weeks
hand grip
Grip hand strength will be assessed by hand held dynamometer
Measured: 6 weeks
