About this study

Official title: Menopoz Dönemindeki Hemşirelerde Kahkaha Yogasının Duygusal Emek Davranışı ve Menopoza Özgü Yaşam Kalitesi Üzerine Etkisi

This randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the effects of laughter yoga on emotional labor behavior and menopause-specific quality of life among menopausal nurses. A total of 120 premenopausal and postmenopausal nurses were randomly assigned to an intervention group (n=60) or a control group (n=60). The intervention group participated in eight laughter yoga sessions over four weeks, while the control group received no intervention. Emotional labor behavior and menopause-specific quality of life were assessed at baseline, post-intervention, and follow-up using validated instruments. The primary objective was to determine whether laughter yoga improves emotional labor behavior and menopause-specific quality of life compared with usual practice.

What participants receive

What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.

  • Laughter YogaBehavioural

Participants assigned to the intervention group received laughter yoga in groups of 10-12 participants. The intervention consisted of eight sessions conducted over four weeks (two sessions per week), with each session lasting approximately 30-40 minutes. Sessions included warm-up exercises, rhythmic clapping, deep breathing techniques, playful activities, simulated laughter exercises, and laughter meditation, followed by relaxation. All sessions were conducted face-to-face by a certified laughter yoga instructor according to the standard laughter yoga protocol.

What is being measured

The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.

  1. Emotional Labor Behavior

Emotional labor behavior assessed using the Nurses' Emotional Labor Behavior Scale. The Emotional Labor Behavior Scale for Nurses consists of 24 items with total scores ranging from 24 to 120. Higher scores indicate higher levels of emotional labor behavior.

    Measured: Baseline, Week 4 (post-intervention), and Week 8 (follow-up)

Secondary outcomes (1)
  1. Menopause-Specific Quality of Life

Menopause-specific quality of life assessed using the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Scale (MENQOL). The Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire is a 29-item instrument with total scores ranging from 0 to 174. Higher scores indicate poorer menopause-specific quality of life and greater symptom burden

    Measured: Baseline, Week 4 (post-intervention), and Week 8 (follow-up)
