Study to evaluate the effect of the Terre de Joie educational kit on children's well-being and empathy at school
Read the detailed description
Multicenter, randomized study with 58 classes divided into two groups (class receiving Earth of Joy versus class having lessons as usual). Assessments were made before and after the intervention using self-questionnaires.
- Conditions
- School Wellness Policy, Empathy, Harassment, Climate
What participants receive
What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.
| Study group | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Earth of Joy | 26 classes of children aged 7 to 11 years whose teachers will implement the Earth of Joy pedagogical program for 10 weeks. The program includes classroom activities focused on joy, empathy, and well-being. Assessments will be conducted before and after the intervention | |
| Control | 26 classes of children aged 7 to 11 years whose teachers will continue regular classroom activities without implementing the Terre de Joie program. Assessments will be conducted at the same time points as the intervention group. |
What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Change in children's school well-being (BES-C scale)
Children's well-being at school will be assessed using the Be-Scol scale. The scale will be administered before and after the Earth of Joy intervention. The primary outcome is the change in Be-Scol scores between baseline and post-intervention.
Measured: September 2025 and December 2025
Secondary outcomes (4)
Change in children's empathy (BES-C scale)
Empathy will be assessed using the BES-C scale (Bensalah et al., 2015), a validated tool for measuring empathy in children. The scale will be administered before and after the intervention.
Measured: September 2025 and December 2025
Change in bullying behaviors
Bullying will be assessed using a self-report questionnaire based on the Éduscol framework. The questionnaire will be completed by children before and after the intervention.
Measured: September 2025 and December 2025
Change in teachers' well-being
Teachers' mental well-being will be assessed using the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale, before and after the intervention.
Measured: September 2025 and December 2025
Change in classroom climate and cohesion
Teachers will complete a questionnaire assessing classroom climate and cohesion using Likert scale. The questionnaire will be administered before and after the intervention.
Measured: September 2025 and December 2025
