About this study

Official title: Effects of Remimazolam and Propofol on Postoperative Myocardial Injury in Elderly Patients Undergoing General Anesthesia

This study is designed as a prospective, double-blind, randomized controlled trial to investigate the effect of remimazolam on intraoperative cardiac output (CO) in elderly patients undergoing general anesthesia, and to evaluate its protective efficacy against elevated high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) levels and perioperative myocardial injury.

Read the detailed description

This study is designed as a prospective, double-blind, randomized controlled trial to compare the differential effects between remimazolam and propofol on intraoperative cardiac output (CO) in elderly patients undergoing general anesthesia. Postoperative serial measurements of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) will be performed, and all enrolled participants will be prospectively followed up for 30 days postoperatively to document the incidence of Myocardial Injury after Noncardiac Surgery (MINS). The core technical workflows of this trial are standardized titration of study drug dosage, continuous intraoperative hemodynamic monitoring of CO, and systematic, time-point-aligned collection of perioperative biomarkers including hs-cTnT.

Being tested
Remimazolam, Propofol

What participants receive

What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.

  • RemimazolamDrug

Induction dose of remimazolam: 0.2-0.4 mg/kg; maintenance dose of remimazolam: 0.2-1 mg/kg/h. Maintain BIS values between 40 and 60.

  • PropofolDrug

Induction dose of propofol : 1.5 -2.5mg/kg; maintenance dose of propofol : 1.5-4.5mg/kg/h. Maintain BIS values between 40 and 60.

What is being measured

The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.

  1. postoperative day 1 hs-cTnT

    postoperative day 1 hs-cTnT level

    Measured: postoperative day 1

Secondary outcomes (6)
  1. CO-AUC₀-₁₅ₘᵢₙ

Area under the curve (AUC) of the change in cardiac output (CO) from baseline within the first 15 minutes after induction.

Measured: within the first 15 minutes after induction of anaesthesia

  2. AUC for other cardiac function parameters

Area-under-the-curve (AUC) values derived from the following haemodynamic parameters will also be evaluated: MAP, HR, CI, SV, SI, ICON, SVV, FTC, TFC, and STR.

Measured: within the first 15 minutes after induction of anaesthesia

  3. immediate postoperative hs-cTnT

    immediate postoperative hs-cTnT

    Measured: immediate postoperative

  4. incidence of MINS within 30 days postoperatively

incidence of myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery (MINS) within 30 days postoperatively

    Measured: within 30 days postoperatively

  5. Quality of Recovery Score

Quality of Recovery Score (QoR-15) at 24 Hours Post-Operatively;The score ranges from 0 to 150 points, with higher scores indicating better postoperative recovery quality.

    Measured: 24 Hours Post-Operatively

  6. incidence of intraoperative hypotension

incidence of intraoperative hypotension (defined as MAP <65 mmHg for at least 1 minute or requiring vasopressor support)

    Measured: intraoperative

Questions about this trial

What is this clinical trial studying?

A study testing Remimazolam and Propofol in people with Myocardial Injury, run by Affiliated Hospital of Jiaxing University at 1 site in China.

The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.

Who may be eligible to take part?

The sponsor lists 6 inclusion and 5 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.

Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?

The record says: enrolling by invitation, as of the sponsor's last update on 25 Aug 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.

Where is the study taking place?

The record lists 1 site in China. Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.

What are the possible benefits and risks?

They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.

Are results available for this study?

This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.

How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?

The record lists no contact. The official record names the sponsor, who can be asked directly. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.

What does the primary outcome measure?

postoperative day 1 hs-cTnT (time frame: postoperative day 1). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.

Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?

No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.

How often is this information updated?

AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 25 Aug 2026.
