Key requirements
Who can take part, as listed by the sponsor. Only the study team can confirm whether you are eligible, so take this list to your doctor.
- Ages 1 month to 18 years
- All sexes
- Child, Adult
Study population: The study population will include children aged 1 month to 18 years presenting to the emergency room of Sohag University Hospitals with clinical features suggestive of renal involvement. This includes both previously healthy children with new-onset symptoms and those with known renal diseases presenting with acute exacerbations. Patients will undergo routine clinical evaluation, laboratory investigations, and imaging as part of standard care, and will be followed during their hospital stay and after discharge.
Who may be able to join
- Children aged 1 month to 18 years. Presentation to the emergency room at Sohag University Hospitals with signs and/or symptoms suggestive of renal involvement (e.g., edema, hematuria, oliguria/anuria, flank pain, hypertension).
- Patients with a known history of renal disease presenting with acute exacerbation.
- Written informed consent obtained from parents or legal guardians.
Who cannot join
- Incomplete or missing essential clinical, laboratory, or imaging data. Refusal or inability to obtain written informed consent from parents or legal guardians.
- Patients with suspected renal symptoms later confirmed to have non-renal causes.
- Patients who received renal replacement therapy prior to presentation at another facility.

About this study
Official title: Variable Manifestations and Outcomes of Renal Diseases Among Children Presenting to the Emergency Room at Sohag University Hospitals
Renal diseases in children present with a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, ranging from mild urinary abnormalities to severe acute kidney injury requiring urgent management. Early recognition in the emergency setting is essential to improve outcomes, yet data on pediatric renal emergencies in Upper Egypt remain limited.
This prospective cohort study aims to characterize the clinical presentations of renal diseases among children presenting to the emergency room at Sohag University Hospitals, determine the prevalence of specific renal conditions, and evaluate immediate management outcomes and short-term follow-up after discharge.

What participants receive
What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.
Standard emergency room managementOther
Participants receive routine clinical assessment, investigations, and management according to Sohag University Hospitals emergency protocols. No study-specific intervention is applied.
| Study group | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Pediatric patients with renal diseases | Not described Receives: Other: Standard emergency room management |
What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Frequency of Clinical Presentations and Final Diagnoses of Pediatric Renal Diseases
Percentage (%) of patients presenting with specific clinical features (e.g., edema, hematuria, oliguria, hypertension) assessed by clinical examination and initial laboratory investigations.
Distribution (%) of final diagnoses (e.g., acute kidney injury, urinary tract infection, congenital anomalies, glomerular diseases) based on clinical evaluation, laboratory results, and imaging studies.
Measured: At baseline (emergency room presentation) through hospital stay (up to discharge, typically within 7 days)

Questions about this trial
What is this clinical trial studying?
An observational study of Kidney Diseases, run by Sohag University.
The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.
Who may be eligible to take part?
The sponsor lists 3 inclusion and 3 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.
Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?
The record says: opening soon, as of the sponsor's last update on 22 Apr 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.
What are the possible benefits and risks?
They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.
Are results available for this study?
This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.
How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?
Contact Fady Medhat (00201284408988, Fadymf96@gmail.com), or a site near the patient. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.
What does the primary outcome measure?
Frequency of Clinical Presentations and Final Diagnoses of Pediatric Renal Diseases (time frame: At baseline (emergency room presentation) through hospital stay (up to discharge, typically within 7 days)). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.
Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?
No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.
How often is this information updated?
AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 22 Apr 2026.
