About this study
Official title: Enhancing Well-being Through Beauty: Applying Experiential Learning in Senior Beauty and Health Care Courses for Community Practice and Effectiveness Evaluation
This study develops and evaluates a "Senior Beauty and Health Care" course designed to improve students' awareness, attitudes, and skills in caring for older adults' appearance and well-being. Using experiential learning and community practice, the course aims to reduce negative stereotypes and boost students' motivation and competence. A mixed-methods approach, including pretest-posttest surveys and focus group interviews, will assess the course's effectiveness and provide insights for future geriatric care education.

Geriatric Beauty and Health Care Learning ProgramBehavioural
An educational course on geriatric care designed to enhance students' attitudes toward older adults and learning outcomes. The intervention includes lectures, group discussions, and interactive learning activities. Effectiveness is measured using pre- and post-course surveys and focus group interviews.
| Study group | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Learning Intervention Group | Experimental | Participants in this group will receive a curriculum intervention designed to improve attitudes and learning outcomes toward older adults. The course includes interactive teaching and adopts mixed research methods for effectiveness evaluation. Quantitative data were collected through pre- and post-test questionnaires to assess students' attitudes towards the elderly, learning attitudes, and course satisfaction; qualitative data were collected through focus group interviews to gain a deeper understanding of students' learning experiences and course suggestions. Receives: Behavioral: Geriatric Beauty and Health Care Learning Program |
What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Change in Students' Learning Attitudes and Motivation
Learning attitudes were assessed using a modified version of the Learning Attitudes Scale developed by Hwang et al. (2013). The questionnaire contains 7 items rated on a 5-point Likert scale (1 = strongly disagree to 5 = strongly agree). The reported value is the mean score across all items. Higher scores indicate more positive learning attitudes.
Measured: At baseline (Week 0, before the course) and immediately after completion of the 18-week course (Week 18).
Change in Students' Attitudes Toward Older Adults
Attitudes toward older adults were assessed using the Attitudes Toward Older Adults Scale (Lu \& Kao, 2009). The scale contains 22 items covering four domains. Each item is rated on a 7-point Likert scale (1 = strongly disagree to 7 = strongly agree). Negatively worded items were reverse-coded before calculating the mean score. The reported value is the mean score across all items. Higher scores indicate more positive attitudes toward older adults.
Measured: At baseline (Week 0, before the course) and immediately after completion of the 18-week course (Week 18).
