Glycemic IndexNCT07017491
Determination of Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load of Selected Melon Varieties in Healthy Adults
A study testing Orange candy melon (Cucumis melo), Rock melon ( Cucumis melo var.cantalupensis) and honey dew (cucumis melo L.) in people with Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load, run by Rehman Medical Institute - RMI.
Trial summary
This crossover study aims to determine and compare the glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) of different melon varieties in healthy adults. Using glucose as the reference food, participants will consume test portions of each melon variety containing equivalent amounts of available carbohydrates. Read more about this study

This crossover study aims to determine and compare the glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) of different melon varieties in healthy adults. Using glucose as the reference food, participants will consume test portions of each melon variety containing equivalent amounts of available carbohydrates. Blood glucose levels will be monitored at regular intervals over a 2-hour period. The glycemic response will be used to calculate GI and GL values for each melon type. The study is intended to inform dietary recommendations for blood glucose management.

What participants receive
What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.
Orange candy melon (Cucumis melo)Other
Participants will consume a portion of melon A containing 50g of available carbohydrates to evaluate postprandial glycemic response.
Rock melon ( Cucumis melo var.cantalupensis)Other
Participants will consume a portion of melon B containing 50g of available carbohydrates to evaluate postprandial glycemic response.
honey dew (cucumis melo L.)Other
Participants will consume a portion of melon C containing 50g of available carbohydrates to evaluate postprandial glycemic response.
| Study group | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Single group (cross over) | Experimental | Participants will consume a glucose solution containing 50 grams of available carbohydrates. This will serve as the reference food to calculate the glycemic index (GI) of the test melons. Receives: Other: Orange candy melon (Cucumis melo); Other: Rock melon ( Cucumis melo var.cantalupensis); Other: honey dew (cucumis melo L.) |
What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Glycemic Index (GI) of Melon Varieties
The glycemic index of each melon variety will be calculated by comparing the incremental area under the blood glucose response curve (iAUC) over 2 hours after consumption of the test food, relative to glucose.
Measured: 1 month
Secondary outcomes (1)
Glycemic Load (GL) of Melon Varieties
Calculated using the formula:
Glycemic Load = (Glycemic Index × amount of carbohydrate in a typical serving) ÷ 100
Measured: 1 month

The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.
Who may be eligible to take part?
The sponsor lists 1 inclusion and 4 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.
Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?
The record says: opening soon, as of the sponsor's last update on 12 Jun 2025. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.
What are the possible benefits and risks?
They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.
Are results available for this study?
This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.
How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?
Contact Naseer Ahmed (03305485960, dr.naseer99@mail.com), or a site near the patient. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.
What does the primary outcome measure?
Glycemic Index (GI) of Melon Varieties (time frame: 1 month). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.
Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?
No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.
How often is this information updated?
AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 12 Jun 2025.
