About this study

Official title: A Phase II Randomized Crossover Pilot Study to Assess Clinical Safety, Performance, and Benefit of the Trillium Full Face Mask in Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea

This will be a single-center, open-label randomized crossover design pilot study to evaluate the clinical safety, clinical performance, and clinical benefit of the Trillium full face mask

Read the detailed description

This will be a single-center, open-label randomized crossover design pilot study to evaluate the clinical safety, clinical performance, and clinical benefit of the Trillium FFM (Full Face Mask). Subjects meeting all eligibility criteria will be enrolled and will be randomized. Based on their randomization, subjects will be asked to use either a new AirFit F20 mask or the Trillium investigational mask for approximately 15 consecutive days (±3 days) of use. They will return for a follow-up visit to complete surveys about their experience during the first treatment period. Subjects will then be crossed over to the other mask (i.e., AirFit F20 or Trillium) per the randomization assignment. Following a second 15-day period of home use, subjects will return for a final visit to complete surveys about their experience in the second treatment period and conclude participation in the investigation.

What participants receive

What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.

  • Trillium Full Face MaskDevice

    Also called Trillium

The Trillium Full Face Mask (FFM) (Philips Respironics, Murrysville, PA) is an over-the-nose, full-face mask with the hose connection in the front. The mask is used with a positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy device and covers both the nose and mouth, ensuring pressurized air is delivered directly into the patient's airways.

  • AirFit F20Device

The AirFit F20 (ResMed, San Diego, California) is an externally placed vented mask covering the mouth and the nose of the patient. It provides a seal such that pressure from a positive pressure source is directed to the patient's nose and/or mouth. The mask connects via a standard conical connector to a conventional air delivery hose, which in turn connects to the positive pressure source. The mask is held in place with an adjustable headgear that straps the mask to the face. The AirFit F20 mask system comprises four subassemblies: cushion, frame, elbow and headgear. The elbow incorporates the vent array and anti-asphyxia valve safety features.

What is being measured

The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.

  1. Median Unintentional Leak During Trillium Mask Use

Unintentional leak was obtained from positive airway pressure device data during the approximately 15-day Trillium mask treatment period. For each participant, the median unintentional leak was calculated. The reported result is the mean of the participant-level median values and its 95% confidence interval. Lower values indicate less unintentional leak. The result was considered acceptable if the upper limit of the 95% confidence interval was less than 24 L/min.

Measured: During the approximately 15-day Trillium mask treatment period

Questions about this trial

What is this clinical trial studying?

A study testing Trillium Full Face Mask and AirFit F20 in people with Obstructive Sleep Apnea, run by Philips Clinical & Medical Affairs Global at 1 site in United States.

The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.

Who may be eligible to take part?

The sponsor lists 9 inclusion and 39 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.

Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?

The record says: finished, as of the sponsor's last update on 5 Nov 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.

Where is the study taking place?

The record lists 1 site in United States. Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.

What are the possible benefits and risks?

They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.

Are results available for this study?

Yes. Results are posted in the registry (first posted 28 Sep 2026). A summary is in the For doctors view, and the full results are on ClinicalTrials.gov.

How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?

The record lists no contact. The official record names the sponsor, who can be asked directly. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.

What does the primary outcome measure?

Median Unintentional Leak During Trillium Mask Use (time frame: During the approximately 15-day Trillium mask treatment period). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.

Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?

No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.

How often is this information updated?

AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 5 Nov 2026.
