About this study
Official title: Changes in Loading Conditions on Induction of General Anesthesia: Mechanisms of Post-Induction Hypotension (PIH)
The purpose of this study is to understand changes in heart function (how the heart pumps blood) and blood flow in people who receive general anesthesia during surgery. The researchers are particularly interested in the heart function and blood flow changes in people who experience low blood pressure (hypotension) after receiving anesthesia.

What participants receive
What participants receive. In a randomised study each person is assigned to one group by chance.
EchocardiographyDiagnostic test
Echocardiography and non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) cuff to measure blood pressure- in anywhere between 2.5 - 5 minute increments before, immediately after anesthesia induction and after intubation for up to 20 minute.
| Study group | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Echocardiography | Patients participating in this study will undergo routine anesthetic and perioperative care with the addition of an echocardiography and non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) cuff to measure blood pressure- in anywhere between 2.5 - 5 minute increments-before, immediately after anesthesia induction and after intubation for up to 20 minutes total. Receives: Diagnostic Test: Echocardiography |
What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
The proportion of patients with post-induction hypotension (PIH)
summarize the distributions of the echocardiography parameter values (pre-load LVEDd(cm), after-load LVEDs(cm), other measures [e.g., contractility (EF %) and structural abnormalities]) across each timepoint among patients with and without PIH
Measured: up to 20-mins after anesthesia induction.

Questions about this trial
What is this clinical trial studying?
An observational study of Anesthesia, run by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center at 1 site in United States.
The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.
Who may be eligible to take part?
The sponsor lists 4 inclusion and 8 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.
Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?
The record says: looking for participants now, as of the sponsor's last update on 10 Aug 2026. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.
Where is the study taking place?
The record lists 1 site in United States. Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.
What are the possible benefits and risks?
They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.
Are results available for this study?
This study is still under way. Results are not available in the source record yet.
How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?
Contact Anahita Dabo-Trubelja, MD (212-639-3279, daboa@mskcc.org), or a site near the patient. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.
What does the primary outcome measure?
The proportion of patients with post-induction hypotension (PIH) (time frame: up to 20-mins after anesthesia induction.). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.
Where can I read the original study information?
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?
No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.
How often is this information updated?
AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 10 Aug 2026.
