Multi-component teaching contentOther
Also called American Medical Association Interactive Training Module with Quiz and Certificate, Powerpoint Lecture and Presentation on Blood Pressure, Competency Based Examination of Blood Pressure Measurement by Students
The students assigned to Group 1 will undergo interactive module training by the American Medical Association which outlines how to properly measure blood pressure manually following the American Heart Association guidelines. Following completion of the module, students will be presented with a powerpoint lecture by the Primary Investigator on Blood Pressure. Students will then undergo a competency examination that assesses their ability to measure blood pressure following the guidelines of the American Heart Association.
| Study group | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Group 1 | Experimental | Group 1 will include first year Physical Therapy students who will be trained for Blood Pressure (BP) measurement using a brief powerpoint lecture, completion of an interactive BP measurement module from the American Medical Association which includes a quiz assessment and certificate of completion, and a competency examination during the lab portion of class. Receives: Other: Multi-component teaching content |
| Group 2 | No intervention | Group 2 consists of second year PT students who only had a powerpoint lecture on Blood Pressure measurement that was done virtually with no lab component or American Medical Association interactive module training. |
What is being measured
The primary outcome is the main question the study is designed to answer.
Competency Assessment Form
This form was developed by the Primary Investigator to objectively measure a student's ability to take a manual blood pressure reading following the established guidelines of the American Heart Association.
Measured: When the student is performing the blood pressure measurement which will span approximately 15-20 minutes
Secondary outcomes (2)
Pre-Measurement Student Survey
A survey will be provided for students to complete prior to measuring blood pressure in the clinic. The components of the survey will assess: basic information related to confidence in blood pressure measurements, prior training (before entering the Doctor of Physical Therapy program), and identification of overall strengths and weaknesses when conducting blood pressure measurements.
Measured: 10 minute survey given prior to participating in the study to both groups of students
Post-Measurement Student Survey
A survey will be provided for students to complete after measuring blood pressure in the clinic. The components of the survey will assess: items for the student to self-reflect on their performance and identify how confident they were in the procedure they used to complete the blood pressure measurements, and overall self-identified strengths and weaknesses.
Measured: 10 minute survey given following participation in the study to both groups of students

Questions about this trial
What is this clinical trial studying?
A study testing Multi-component teaching content in people with Blood Pressure Measurement, run by Youngstown State University at 1 site in United States.
The full registered description is in the About this study section and the official record.
Who may be eligible to take part?
The sponsor lists 0 inclusion and 10 exclusion criteria. Eligibility is decided by the study team after screening, so read the full criteria and contact a listed site.
Is this clinical trial currently recruiting?
The record says: finished, as of the sponsor's last update on 31 Jan 2024. Status can change between updates, so confirm with the study contact before making plans.
Where is the study taking place?
The record lists 1 site in United States. Whether a site is taking part right now should be confirmed with that site. See every site.
What are the possible benefits and risks?
They depend on the study and the treatment, and no study can promise a benefit. The study team explains the known risks during informed consent, before anyone joins; the record itself does not list them.
Are results available for this study?
The study is completed, but results are not available in the source record. That does not mean the treatment did or did not work.
How can a doctor refer a patient or contact the research team?
The record lists no contact. The official record names the sponsor, who can be asked directly. AzTrials does not enrol participants or take referrals.
What does the primary outcome measure?
Competency Assessment Form (time frame: When the student is performing the blood pressure measurement which will span approximately 15-20 minutes). It is what the study was designed to measure, not a finding.
Where can I read the original study information?
On the ClinicalTrials.gov record for NCT04976452, which also lists 23 linked publications.
Does a listing mean the treatment is approved or proven to work?
No. A listing means the study is registered. It does not show that the treatment is safe, works, or is approved by a regulator.
How often is this information updated?
AzTrials copies changed records from ClinicalTrials.gov every night and reloads the whole registry every week. The sponsor last updated this record on 31 Jan 2024.
